Tsunami: Run
Tsunamis.
Tsunamis/Harbor Waves
What are Tsunamis and what causes them to occur?
Tsunamis are huge waves caused by earthquakes in oceans. When earthquakes occur under the ocean, there is energy. This energy is transferred to the water and tsunamis form. When tsunamis first start at deep water of the ocean they are not noticeable. The huge tsunamis you see are formed when it hits shallow water. This is when the tsunami can be ten stories high and destroy things with its massive force.
- Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes, underwater landslides, volcanoes, or any undersea disturbances.
- A tsunami is a giant wave that can be up to 100 feet/10 stories high.
- Tsunamis travel faster in open ocean.
- The speeds of tsunamis average from 450 to 600 miles per hour.
