Scary Photos of Tornadoes in The Us

A series of photos taken in the US and an amazing video of a large tornado in Canada.

This photo of a mature tornado was taken in 1966 by Leo Ainsworth

Tornadoes occur in all continents on earth except Antarctica, in the United States there are on average 1200 tornadoes a year it is the country with most tornadoes in the world. Most of the US tornadoes occur in an area called Tornado Alley which is roughly the central area between the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky Mountains. The US state with most tornadoes is Texas (partly because it is a very large state). In the core of Tornado Alley there are building regulations that take into account that building can be hit and damaged by tornadoes. Several people die every year because of tornadoes, in 2010 so far 72 people have died in the US.

Curiously enough other two countries with a very large number of tornadoes are the Netherlands and the UK (mainly England) but their tornadoes tend to be rather small affairs.
