The coldest place in the world is Vostok, Antarctica. On July 21, 1983, scientist there recorded a temperature of almost -129 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature in the winter is about -85 degrees Fahrenheit and the highest temperature ever recorded at Vostok was about -2 degrees Fahrenheit.

The hottest temperature ever recorded was 136 degrees Fahrenheit. It occurred in Libya in 1922. The highest average annual mean temperature is in Dallol, Ethiopia. The mean annual temperature is about 94 degrees Fahrenheit.

The highest amount of snowfall ever recorded in one year occurred on Mount Baker, Washington. The area received about 1140 inches of snow in one year.

The area with highest average rainfall per year is Mount Waialeale, Hawaii. It receives an average of about 472 inches of rain per year.

The driest place in the world is in the Atacama Desert, Chile. There average rainfall is about 0.003 inches of rain per year. It is believed that not drop of rain fell from 1570 to 1971! Scientists could detect any life in the soil in the area.

Next time you wake up and complain about the rain, or despise the short walk to your car in the winter morning, or hate the summer heat while mowing your front lawn, just be thankful, you could live in one of these locations.
