Lethal super volcano ready for eruption

Geologists predict impending eruptions from history’s most deadly volcano.

Mount Tambora volcano on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia is about to erupt, and there is no question of any volcano. It is the most deadly volcano in the world.

Between 60,000 and 70,000 people died when Mount Tambora in April 1815 had its largest eruption. Now the steam started to rise from the crater and more than 200 small earthquakes recorded around the big volcano.

- Steam suggest crater water warms and the small earthquake mean that magma is moving up through the ground. It can easily erupt. I think we’re talking about weeks before Mount Tambora erupts, says Paul Martin Holm, a geologist and professor of the Institute of Geography and Geology. “

Since the outbreak in 1815, the Mount Tambora erupted three times. It is however a much smaller scale, and also less than the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull who became world famous in 2010 when its ash paralyzed the European air traffic.

The characters, Paul Martin Holm see is clear evidence that Tambora is close to the first outbreak in nearly 45 years.
Hovering between level two and three

- Within the volcanoes, there is an alarm system on four levels. When volcanoes are not in danger of going to erupt, they are at Level 1 But 30th August raised the Tambora to level 2 and 5 September also saw the third level So I think it’s close, says Paul Martin Holm.

When Mount Tambora had its major eruption in 1815 was actually the end of a three year long outbreak that started in 1812. It is hard to predict what will happen this time, says Paul Martin Holm, but shows the power of the time, so it may come to have meaning, even here in Denmark.

- Tambora location around the equator means that it can have an impact on both hemispheres, and it is rarely seen. The effect of an outbreak can be global, where the ashes will again paralyze air traffic. It can also rise up into the stratosphere and prevents the sun’s rays come through. Develops the even much sulfur, so it is that we will see changes in temperature, says Paul Martin Holm.
Created several tsunamis

Mount Tambora eruption in 1815 was just so much power that the global temperature fell. The outbreak caused several tsunamis that hit the nearby towns and there are reports that it created a 43 km high cloud of ash.

The memory of the forces that were at the time, a crater with a diameter of 11 km and a depth of 1 kilometer, found on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. Since then, smaller outbreaks recorded in the years 1819, 1880 and most recently in 1967.
