Published by Magnificent rock formations around the world that are really worth seeing.
This rock formation is an astonishing geological formation on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. The cheesewring is a pile of granite slabs that looks like a “cheesewring”, a press-like device that previously used to make cheese.
Mushroom Rock – Kansas, USA
This magnificent Mushroom Rock formation is located in Mushroom Rock State Park in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas. They were formed by the erosion of a harder rock on top of a softer rock. The rock contains Dakota Sandstone. There are two mushrooms and a giant shoe rock, as well as numerous other rock formations.
Brimham Rock – England, UK
This 30 meters high incredible rock formation located on Brimham Moor in North Yorkshire, England is part of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Externsteine – Germany
These spectacular columns of up to 40 meters tall are a distinctive rock formations located in Germany. The formation consists of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills.
Perce Rock – Canada
This rock formation is one of the largest natural arches in the world. This spectacular natural arch named Percé Rock (“pierced rock) is an island and sheer rock formation in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It is a massive limestone stack 433 meters (1420 ft) long, 90 meters (296 ft) wide, and 88 meters (289 ft) at its highest point. The rock gets its name from a large 15 meter (50 ft) high arch near its seaward end.
Maltese Cross Rock – South Africa
The Maltese Cross Rock is a rock formation located in Western Cape, South Africa.
James Bond Island – Thailand
James Bond Island is a famous needle formed limestone rock in the sea. This was featured in the 1974 movie The Man with the Golden Gun. It is located in Ao Phang-Nga (Phang-Nga Bay) National Park, Thailand.
Amah Rock – Hong Kong, China
Amah Rock (Mong Fu Shek; lit. “The stone that is gazing out for her husband”) is a naturally occurring rock located on a hilltop in southwest Sha Tin, Hong Kong. The rock is approximately 15 meters in height, and its shape looks like a woman carrying a baby on her back. It stands above the entrance to the Lion Rock Tunnel, within Lion Rock Country Park.

The wave rock is my favourite. I’ve also seen the ‘James Bond’ rock in the movie. I thought it was just a movie prop at the time.

These are great, however you did leave out one natural rock formation that is beautiful, it’s called Natural Bridge it is in the state of Virginia in a little town named after the formation.

The rock at Brimham, UK, is actually called the dancing bear and is only about 5m high, no where near the 300m stated. If it was 300m the trees in the background would surely be the biggest in the world!

There is one that it is not here , there are some intresting rocks in Mexico near the USA border ,on the road from Tecate to Tijuana , there is a big plane there where are many ball shaped rocks (2-3 m in diameter) that seem to apear from the ground.I don’t have a photo on this computer but i will forward this site to a friend that live s in Mexico maybe he has some photos from there

Nobert, your illustrations are breathtaking. Thank you for sharing. I remember driving through West Virginia as a teen and looking at some of the marvelous road sides of pure rock going straight up. Wow, this makes me want to travel! I’ve seen Devil’s tower and the rock formations in Kansas. Devil’s tower is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. I always wonder how wildlife like bunny rabbits live up there.

The list falls very short in my opinion. There are dozens of other great formations that weren’t included and should’ve been. Still the ones mentioned are nice. You should consider a second part, and who knows, maybe a third one too.

Only two comments:
First: The photo of Utah´s rock nowadays doesn´t exist as we can see in the photo you posted (falled down recently)

Wonderful post! But, there’s another interesting rock formation in northern Pennsylvania called the singing rocks. It’s a huge field of boulders of different sizes and if you use drum sticks or any other striking item on them they ’sing’! Each different size of rock makes a different sound.

To Lor: That is not the “Dancing Bear” formation. It is the Idol Rock formation. However you are correct it is no where near 300 meters high, its about 20 feet, or 6 meters tall.

The Cheesewring Rock is not a natural formation, it was formed by something beyond our understanding?Karlu Karlu are probably natural but it’s also possibly un-natural also. The BrimHam Rock is incredible, it hasn’t gone over yet? Everything else is most likely all natural. I’m a UFO researcher and know that there are a group of loving extraterrestrials on this planet that are here to help us, and have been here longer than we as a Human Race has stepped foot on this planet Earth. I’m in the middle of making a Documentry about this race of extraterrestrials, that are living and working in our upper atmosphere and have been here a long, long time, I have over 50-Fifty Hours of video shot in the last 6-Six months and am still in the middle of my research and am trying to get an additional100-One Hundred hours more before i splice it all together. You should add the Picture Rock from Michigan, it is a rock formation completely disconnected from the rest of the land and it has a single tree growing on top but the trees roots extend from the rock to the land =)
