The Three Worst Natural Disasters in the Past Century
The three Most Destructive Natural Disasters in 100 years.
These are the most destructive disasters to hit the human race in the 20th Century.
Counting downwards in number of deaths.
1976, Earthquake
This century’s worst earthquake, reaching a magnitude of 7.8, hit the of Tangshan in northeast China during the night. The official death toll was 242,000. Some estimates had the number around 655,000 deaths.
1970, Cyclone
The Bhola cyclone in the Ganges delta was the second worst natural disaster in this century killing at least 500,000 people in Bangladesh but some people estimate the amount of deaths to be around 750.000-1,000,000.
1918-1919, Influenza Pandemic
This Pandemic was the worst natural disaster in history as well as the 20th Century. This caused the deaths of 35 to 100 million people. The flu nicknamed “Spanish Flu” infected around 20-40% of the worlds population and it killed around 20 million people though some estimates have had the amount at around 50-100 million deaths.
These are bad natural disasters and maybe the recent study into climate change may be affecting the number of natural disasters that the world is experiencing. The recent scare about “Swine Flu” may also turn into worse of a pandemic than it already is.
