Pyrite or Gold?
Pyrite is mostly mistaken for gold but is not. FeS2, Iron Sulfide.
Pyrite is Gold, right? No it is “fool’s gold”. Ways to classify that this mineral is not Gold is checking the density. Some people may get ripped off when trying to buy gold and instead get pyrite. If you know how to classify you will not get ripped off. Pyrite is a brassy yellow color. Pyrite is also much harder then Gold. Pyrite’s hardness is 6-6.5 and Gold is around 2-3. The streak is greenish black or dark green. Pyrite contains a high amount of Iron also. Pyrite and Gold are both used for jewelry so they are sometimes mixed up.
Gold
Pyrite
As you can see, you might think they look alike, and you are pretty close but after classifying the minerals you will see a difference.
