Aquamarine

The beautiful semi-precious gemstone serves not only elegance, but also as a birthstone for Pisces and Aries alike.

The Depth of Aquamarine

The Aquamarine is a precious gemstone known for it’s beautiful sea-blue color. It is also the birthstone of the month of March.

Its name comes from a Latin and Greek word “Aqua Marina,” which meana, “Water of the Sea.” Although sailors believe that this beautiful blue stone can help them with many needs while sailing, Aquamarine is plainly a beautiful sea-blue stone that is mined in Brazil. Aquamarine is related to a stone called Emerald (birthstone of the month May). Comparing both of these gemstones, Aquamarine is more precious and more valuable than an Emerald. In the MOH’s Scale of Hardness, Aquamarine is ranked 7.5-8.

How it is formed

Aquamarine is form in igneous rocks. When the pluton cools, minerals form crystals, which form Aquamarine. The slower it cools, the bigger the crystals get. Aquamarine is also part of the beryl family.
