Expecting The Unexpected
Quick tips on disaster preparation.
Disaster Preparation is one of the best ways to avoid further damage during calamities. Since most disasters come unexpected, it is best to be prepared at all times. Having an emergency kit is one of the basics of disaster preparedness.
There are tons and tons of tragic incidents today. Earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, sink holes, floods, hurricanes and storms. All of these are natural calamities beyond human control. The planet earth is full of constantly changing phenomena that affects different forms of life. For this, calamity awareness should be practised at all times.
There are many things one can do to be prepared. First, you can make a background check about what hazards exist in your area. This will give you an idea on what plans to create if ever such disasters happen. After obtaining info about the area, one can then create a list of the things he or she should put in his emergency bag. First aid kits are always considered as must haves in any emergency loot. Things like canned goods, a few pieces of clothes, wet towels, water, light, medicine, a map and a list of emergency numbers are some of the most important things that your kit should also have.
Some institutions like the Red Cross also have disaster preparation seminars wherein they are trained well to conduct proper emergency response. These seminars educate people especially health professionals, volunteers and first aiders on how to be prepared during emergency situations.
Like the Red Cross, the government also practise disaster preparation by having analysts predict possible unwanted incidents. There are weather forecasts and local government agencies who monitor activities such as possible earthquakes or tsunamis in a certain area. Once a possible threat is detected, they send out reports to serve as a warning to residents. This way, less people are estimated to suffer severe damages thus saving more lives.
Whenever emergencies happen, one most important thing to practice is to calm down. This will enable you to think well and work according to your plan. It may help you escape any possible damage that the calamity might cause. Preparedness, awareness and a calm mind would always help an individual make proper actions during times of distress.
