Information about different types of Alkali and what they do.

When one thinks of Alkali’s two things come into mind either used for soap making or cleaning products but there is much more to ta Alkaline than just those two reasons. There are the Dangers of Alkali’s if used improperly. When Oil is mixed with a Alkali it forms Glycerin and a Sodium salt of fatty Acid. Alkali products have a property to darken aluminum surfaces. But if one does not know what a Alkaline is here is the definition: Alkaline is A Carbonate or Hydroxide of a Alkali metal, the aqueous solution of which is bitter, slippery, caustic, and characteristically basic in reactions. Alkaline is a white solid  it is available in pellets, flakes, granules and as a 50% saturated solution. It is a hygroscopic and readily absorbs water and air. It should be stored in a airtight container. It is very Soluble in water with liberation of heat. Alkaline Substances can very in strengths. While most of alkaline substances are toxic, some may be corrosive and some irritate skin and eyes so always use precaution when using alkalies. The stronger the alkaline the more dangerous it can be for example  it can cause burns, and in some cases if its swallowed may cause death or injuries. On the basics of the different types of Alkali’s here are a few.

Moderate: A few examples of Moderate Alkali’s are household ammonia,Borax,Tris odium Phosphate or also known as (TSP). And last but not least VERY STRONG ALKALI’S : Examples are washing soda(sodium carbonate), and Lye (Caustic soda) are the most common very strong alkali’s.   So just remember that when you do use a Alkali to be very cautious and use Plastic Goggles and Gloves when working with Alkali’s.
