How to Create a Cloud in a Bottle

A fun and simple science projects for kids and their parents.

Here is a fun little science project for kids and their parents, that can be done right there at home. All you need is a little counter or table space and a few very common household items.

Materials Needed:

  • Clear, two-liter bottle
  • Match
  • Warm Water

Rinse out the two-liter bottle and remove any labels. You want to be able to see all the way through the bottle.

Add around two inches of warm water to the bottle. Squeeze and release the bottle. Light a match and allow it to burn for a little bit, then toss it in the bottle and quickly screw on the cap.

With the smoke trapped inside squeeze the bottle hard and release. What this does is cause the pressure and temperature to change, which is needed for cloud formation.

Squeeze and release the bottle several times and you should be able to see your very own cloud forming.
