Why Do Mosquito Bites Itch?
Find out why Mosquito bites itch.
Have you ever heard the expression “the female of the species is deadlier than the male”? Well, it certainly applies to mosquitoes because only female mosquitoes suck blood. The female has sharp piercing organs arranged around her sucking tube called proboscis. When the mosquito bites, it injects a liquid in the blood to prevent it from clotting quickly.
This liquid causes pain and itching and produces the swelling. Next to its bite, the hum of the mosquito is probably most annoying to us. The hum is actually mating call. The males make a deep hum by vibrating their wings, while the females make a shriller hum by vibrating their wings eve more rapidly than the males do.
Adult mosquitoes usually live only a few weeks. In some species, there are twelve generations of mosquitoes during one year!
