White-Tailed Deer

Animals in the mixed wood plains.

The white-tailed deer is the most abundant species of large herbivores in Canada and mostly in the mixedwood plains. The white-tailed deer are great for the Canadian economy, every year millions of dollars are spent by hunters to hunt them. The main things white-tailed deer eat are various hardwood trees, during the summer they will also eat tree buds and during the winter they may eat needles of conifers or tree buds.  When its warm white-tailed deer tend to be alone and solitary but during winter months they usually go to one “yard” (location). The yard must provide cover (like conifers) and plenty of food for a deer to survive. On they arrive to the yard they will not leave even if they face starvation or a predator.
