Types of Foxes

There are several varieties and colors of foxes.

here are several varities of foxes. They live in a variety of habitats and come in a variety colors and appearances.. Most are nocturnal.
Here are a few of the varieties.

Fennec Fox

Fennec foxes are small foxes which live in deserts. They are sand colored with
large ears. They weigh about three pounds in adulthood. Fennec foxes are
omnivores. They are very active at night. They usually live in groups called
harems. Sometimes humans can tame fennec foxes, however they still
retain some wild instincts.

Young Kit Fox

Kit Foxes live in North America. They are nocturnal. Kit foxes resemble
Swift foxes however they are a different variety of fox. Sometimes
different kit fox families use the same hunting grounds. Sometimes Kit foxes
will share kills with coyotes.

Swift Fox

Swift Foxes live in western North America. Swift foxes live only three- six
years in the wild, however they may live up to 12 years in captivity.
Swift Foxes are an endangered species due to being hunted. In 1983 they
were slowly introduced back into the wild.

Red Fox

Red Fox also known as true foxes, can be any shade of red some may even
have silver fox cubs. The Red Fox lives in a wide variety of habitats. They
may be found in several countries including Australia. Red Foxes were highly
prized for their luxurious fur. Foxes are known to be carriers of rabies.
Steps have been implemented in some areas to introduce bait with vaccines in
some rural areas.

Resting Gray Fox

Gray Foxes may live in some of the same type habitats as the Red Fox.
Gray Foxes are monogamous and help each to raise their young. Gray
Foxes differ from most dogs by the fact that they can climb trees.

Arctic Fox

Arctic Foxes have adapted to live in very cold temperatures. They have thick
luxurious fur, a counter current heat exchange in circulation of the paws.
The Arctic Fox has very keen hearing. It can hear prey deep under the snow.
Arctic Foxes are brown to gray in the summer months and white in the
winter. They are born gray and turn white as they age.

Arctic Foxes are hunters and scavengers they will follow polar bears to
eat scraps left behind the bears.

Some female Arctic foxes stay with their parents to help rear the next litter.
