Ever wondered what the fastest animals in the world are?
Well, I’ve made a list for you.
The fastest mammal in the world is a well known animal. It’s a giant cat which we call a Cheetah. It can run up to 115 km/h which is faster than average cars do. The Cheetah however, can not run like that for a long period of time but only some seconds. The acceleration of a Cheetah is pretty good too, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 in 4.5 seconds!
The fastest fish in the world is a Sailfish. The Sailfish have a big fin on their back that is why they are called Sailfish. They look quite fast but in fact they only weigh 90 kilograms at most. The sailfish is only a few km/h slower than the Cheetah. They can swim up to 110 km/h but that is very rare most can only go up to 80 km/h.
The fastest bird in the world is the Peregrine Falcon. It has wingspan of around 80cm-120cm. If it dives it can accelerate up to a speed of 322 km/h. Males weigh 440–750 grams females are heavier namely 910–1500 grams. Be happy they don’t eat humans, with their sharp claws and fast dive you won’t want to have one crashing into you.
The fastest insect in the world is a pretty common insect. It is the dragonfly it can reach a speed of just beneath 100km/h. So the dragonfly is faster than any human in the world and faster than most mammals excluding the Cheetah. There are many kids that go out and catch dragonflys and some even succeed. How can you catch something that goes almost 100km/h, thats because some are floating in the air. And they don’t fly 100km/h the second they lift off.
The fastest reptile in the world isn’t as fast as the other fastest animals. It isn’t that fast at all. The name of this animal is the spiny-tailed iguana. This fellow can run up to 43km/h thats around as fast as the fastest human. Even thought this isn’t that fast, you can make it sound really fast. 43km/h is around 11 meters in a second!
