The Top 10 Most Poisonous Animals in the World

An intriguing list of the most poisonous animals in the world with helpful pictures.

#10. The Puffer Fish

A rather beautiful aquarium fish, the puffer fish can actually be deadly in some cases. Its skin and certain organs are extremely poisonous to humans, therefore it is deadly to us when inexperienced fishers catch the fish and eat it.  The poison creates deadness to the lips and tongue and causes muscle paralysis. Most victims die in a period of 24 hours. From 1996 to 2006, there was an average of about 20-44 incidents of the poison a year. Of those, about 6 led to death. Due to the poison in the fish, only licensed chefs are allowed to prepare it as a meal.

#9. The Poison Dart Frog

The poison dart frog which I believe to be an extremely beautiful creature is very deceiving. It has a poison that is so lethal, that just the amount on the head of a pin could kill a human. The poison is on its skin so whenever a human touches it, he may get poisoned. The poison dart frog has enough of this venom to kill about 10 humans. This creature got its name because the Amerindians used to use the poison for their poison tipped darts.

#8. The Inland Taipan

This is the world’s most venomous snake. It has enough venom in one bite to wipe out 100 humans or 250,000 mice. Its venom is about 300 times more powerful than the common cobra and it can kill a human in about 45 minutes. Thanks to its shyness, there have been no recorded fatalities from this snake and all of the people who have been bitten have treated it with antivenin.

#7. The Brazilian Wandering Spider

This spider appears in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records for most venomous spider and the spider responsible for most human deaths. These are dangerous because of their habit to wander and go in populated places such as houses, shoes, clothes and cars. It’s bite not only causes huge amounts of pain, but also can cause priapism, uncomfortable erections that hurt, last many hours and can cause impotence.

#6. The Stonefish

This fish is definitely ugly, but also carries a big, poisonous punch. It is currently the world’s most venomous fish. Said to be the worst pain known to man, it makes you want to amputate the affected limb. It also usually gives shock, paralysis and tissue death.

#5. The Death Stalker Scorpion

True, most scorpions usually only cause relatively harmless affects to humans such as pain, numbness and swelling. Though this is an extremely dangerous scorpion because its venom causes unbearable pain, then fever, which is followed by a coma, convulsions, paralysis and death. Thankfully, it isn’t often that one of these kills a healthy adult man. Then again, I don’t know if anyone would like to live through these symptoms anyways.

#4. Blue-Ringed Octopus

With it being about as big as a ping pong ball, for it’s size, it sure hits hard. It carries enough venom to kill about 26 humans. At first, the bite is painless and even unnoticeable. But within 10 minutes, symptoms begin to develop such as nausea and vomiting. There have been cases where they have caused paralysis and eventually death. There currently is no antivenin available.

#3. The Marble Cone Snail

Believe it or not, yes, #3 is a snail and it is as deadly as any other creature on this list. One tiny drop of its poison can kill 20 humans. If you ever see one in a warm salt water area, be sure not to touch it. The symptoms of the envenoming can start immediately or be delayed in onset for days. It gives intense pain, swelling, numbness and tingling. Worse cases include vision changes, muscle paralysis and breathing failure. There is no antivenin and about 30 people have been killed by the venom.

#2. The King Cobra

One bite of this snake can easily kill a human. It is even capable of killing an adult Asian Elephant in just 3 hours if bitten in a vulnerable area such as the trunk. Its venom is not as toxic as the other snakes but can inject 5 times more venom than other snakes and cause death 5 times faster as well.

#1. The Box Jellyfish

The world’s most venomous animal prize goes to a jellyfish that you can hardly see when you are near them. There stings are so excruciating that most human victims go into shock, drown or die of heart failure before they get the chance to treat it. If you get stung, you have almost no chance of living unless treated immediately after. Also, their tentacles don’t even release the toxin on contact, but with sensing the presence of its prey.

You might at least use a picture of an Inland Taipan, instead of a regular Taipan; and a picture of a King Cobra, not an Indian Cobra.

The yellow poison dart frog has the most powerful venom known to man. It’s in other words more venomous than every other species on that list.

You shouldnt take this list too serious.
