The Common Moorhen

Facts about the common Moorhen.

The Common Moorhen is a member of the bird family and is easily distinguishable because of its distinct red bands around their legs.  The length of this bird is 13 inches and can weigh up to a maximum of 330 grams.  Most commonly this species of bird is found in South America and Africa. 

During the incubation period of 1 month the female Common Moorhen can produce a total of 7 eggs.  The life expectancy for this animal is 2 years and they reach their sexual maturity at the age of 1.  This bird is commonly called a swamp chicken due to its appearance.
