The Beautiful Animal of Australia
Facts about Koalas and how they live.
Koalas are small, round animals. Weighing about 30 pounds, their average height is 2 to 2.5 feet tall. They have soft, gray and white fur, and their ears are rather big and round. Although the koala resembles a bear, its actually a marsupial, which is a special kind of mammal which carries its newborns in a pouch.
Koalas can live as long as 17 years, although threats including hunting, habitat destruction, traffic accidents, and other animal attacks prevent their lifespan from being that long. They now generally live 2 to 10 years. Today, there are fewer than 100,000 koalas existing, and 4,000 koalas die yearly due to the accidents above.
Koalas are found all over Australia. From Queensland to Victoria, you can see them generally resting in their habitats which are forests, coastal islands, and low woodlands. They generally consume leaves and bark off trees and other plants.
As you can see, the Koala is a very cute, and gentle animal. For that reason, people of Australia, and people of the world shoukd unite and save the Koala’s!
