The Star-Nosed Mole has an incredible ability to taste. Why, I hear you ask. Well the reason why it has an extraordinary sense of taste is that it can taste through its nose. Yes, you heard me right, its nose. Using this amazing sense it can taste the earth as it digs around, making it easy to find the grubs, worms, snails and slugs that it eats. If it happens to find something, the Star-Nosed Mole can identify it in 120 milliseconds, and in the ultra short time of 8 ms, it can decide whether it is hungry, the object is digestible, and if the pray is comestible or not. Unfortunately, the Star-Nosed Mole is blind, but it can smell and taste extremely well.They also have the ability to smell underwater. It is done by breathing out air bubbles onto things or areas and then get the bubbles to carry the smell back through the nose. That is why I think the Star-Nosed Mole has the most extraordinary way to taste and smell.
