Some of the World’s Smallest Creatures
Say hello to my little friends. These little guys are not only cute, they’re so tiny that at first glance, you’d miss them.
Boundaries are being pushed as more and more species are being discovered as being some of the smallest animals ever found. It’s tragic though because some of these animals may face extinction. The only way some of us will ever get to see them is through pictures.
Hippocampus Denise
These are supposedly the smallest sea horses ever discovered. From the tip of its tail to its snout, this little creature measures no longer than 16mm, or about six-tenths of an inch. That’s unbelievably small. And considering the males have the babies, I can’t imagine what their stretch marks would look like.
Pygmy Marmoset
Pygmy marmosets are the smallest monkeys in the world. They usually weigh no more than 140 grams (5 ounces) for males, and maybe 120 grams for females. When a baby is born, it might not even weigh more than a mere 10 grams. They are omnivorous, but they primarily feed on tree sap.
Brazilian Brachycephalus Didactylus
This is the smallest known frog in the Southern Hemisphere. It is more commonly called the Brazilian gold frog. An adult only grows to be 9.8 mm with its legs pulled in. That’s only three-eights of an inch. Like most small amphibians, these little guys are at risk of becoming extinct.
Leptotyphlops Carlae
This snake is as thin as a spaghetti noodle and measures only 3.9 inches long. Females only hatch one egg, unlike other snakes that can lay up to 100. This type of threadsnake may also face extinction due to deforestation and population expansion.
Bee Hummingbird
It doesn’t even weigh as much as a dime. It may grow to be only 2 inches long. It’s wings can beat more than 80 times a minute. The male is actually smaller than the female, and often times they are mistaken for insects. This animal is protected now, even though its population was once thriving.
