North Country Wildlife: Images and Video

The North Country where I grew up has some truly amazing wildlife.

I have written many articles about the animals back home in the North Country and of the many things they have taught me over the many years, I have walked my path a healer/medicine man. So now I would like to share with you my readers and friend’s imagery and video of some of my favourites.

One of my much favourite wildlife is the deer.

The trophy Whitetail deer above are very plentiful in the North Country of Canada. Hunters come from all over the United States and Canada to hunt them.

Moose are also plentiful in the North Country and many come from far and wide in hopes of bagging one of these huge animals. Moose can weigh up to 1500 pounds or more.

Below is a awesome image of the moose and if you have ever hunted one I’m sure you’ll agree that the hunt at times far out weighs the thrill of the kill. Moose for their size can be very invisible when they choose to be.

The Elk is now being reintroduced to the North Country; they were hunted into almost extinction. They too have become like the Buffalo that once wandered the open planes. Through careless management they were allow to be over hunted till there were hardly any left. Since the reintroduction of the Elk, New and very strict laws have been set down as to insure the survival of the Elk Herds.

Below is the Elk and it’s a magnificent creature from which many a lessons can be learned if we choose to observe and listen.

The Black Bear is also found in the North Country and in some communities have become a major problem. As man develops the country side more and more they encroach on the wildlife habitat and the wild animals are forced to look for food in the villages and towns. Many an unsuspecting individual have been the victims of bear attracts.

Hunting seasons have been increased in some of the places of the North Country in hopes of diminishing the black bear population. The Ministry of Natural Resources will most times trap, tag and tranquilize a problem bear and move it away from the area. If it returns though it’s usually killed.

The black bear is an amazing creature though.

That video showed you that they can and often do get up close and personal.

The Canadian Lynx is my all time favourite wildlife and is an awesome creation. Its huge padded feet allow it to move easily over the top of the snow in the winter. The Lynx is an awesome hunter, very cunning and very fast.

As you can see by the picture and the video this is truly a magnificent animal.

The Bob Cat is also common in the North Country and though it’s not often seen by many, it is very much alive and well.

The Grizzle is much larger then the common Black Bear and can be found throughout Canada in the far North. It is very unpredictable and can take down a horse or a deer with little effort.

As you can see in the video above the Grizzle easily takes down her prey.

Another Magnificent animal and one that is always dear to my heart is the Cougar.

The cougar is a fierce fighter and will protect her young even to the death if need be. The grizzle wanted no part of her after round one and made a haste retreat.

This ends part one of several articles that I’m hoping to share with you my friends and readers. Stay tuned for part two it will follow soon. If you find that you like this publication, let me know you enjoyed it by clicking the “I Like” on the article.

These animals are wonderful. If people would remember that the animals need their freedom like we do and stop encroaching on the beautiful North Country then the animals, such as the grizzle would not need to wander into the villages of man. It is good to know that the wildlife are finally being protected and cared for. Great read. Very informative.
