If a Wild Animal Should Enter Civilization, How Should Man React?

Wild animals are often calm in their natural habitat. I visited the Safari in Florida, and they were even yawning. Of course this was because they did not have to go hunting for their food. They gazed at us as we passed by in the open truck. If an animal gets out of the woods, because it is very scared of the strange surroundings and people it encounters, it can be described as brutish, daring, fearfully aggressive, or hostile. There is potential danger since it acts wild and can pounce on someone at anytime and cause harm. When we think about all this, we visualize an image of a raging animal just waiting to devour us. We become afraid and are filled with dread. In this state of panic, we just want this thing far away from us.

Have you ever seen the attempt to capture a wild species who had somehow wandered into civilization? This animal is hunted down with stunt guns, nets to form a trap, and even a pit is dug and camouflaged by being covered over with vegetation.

The hunters watch and wait, observing every step that this creature makes, 24 hours a day. Various electronic devices, such as walkie-talkies, cell phones, monitoring cameras and the media, are used in this “manhunt”.

Everyone reports whenever the “animal” is seen. His location is always made known, and his actions scrutinized from afar. Because of the distance between this “creature” and his “hunters,” mistakes are often made because of false reports or “false witnessing.”

There are road blocks and dead ends set up everywhere. Various means of locomotion is used to follow the “culprit” by air, land and sea. No one complains of feeling tired. The hunting goes on. Members of the crew are most often replaced by willing “volunteers.” The poor “thing” is surrounded on all ends. There seems to be “no where out” of this dilemma. The crowd gets larger as more persons are recruited. Being paid is not a problem. There is a common song and dance “ the animal” must be caught, be it “dead or alive.”

Now, even though they are such a “large army” they are still afraid. There is dread because the “animal might have something unknown to humans. They have to be cautious or “it” might be something contagious. This would be a world catastrophe.

They continue to follow the animal. There is renewed energy every day. Those who were on the evening and night shifts are readily replaced by the day shift. Now there will be enough light to see. The “army” is much larger than the shifts before. As the day grows “older,” the number increases. Alas! The “animal” is still too swift, or is it.

Some of their “traps” were implemented. No matter what they gave this “animal to eat, it will not pass out. They tried to “inject” it a few times, but none of that worked. They tried to trap it with “food”, that never worked either.

At times, the animal remains out of sight. At other times, it comes out for a short while. Those who happen to be close by, would go to the exact spot when he leaves, searching for “clues” that will tell about his past and present activities, background, and other “animal associates.”

None of their endeavors provided them with the “fruit” that they sought. The “manhunt” continues, even as the “animal” sleeps. Cameras tell in what position he sleeps, and what he it eats. The list goes on and on. The reports, true, lie, or just imagined, gets longer and longer.

The animal appears to be clever. Finally, sick and hungry, he “gave himself up” by fearfully crawling out. He is then captured, tied, and released back into the wilds again.
