Hummingbirds: The Only Bird That Flies Backwards

Hummingbirds is a very spectacular species in bird family.

Hummingbirds are native to America and belong to bird family Trochilidae. There are some peculiar things about this bird like its life span, rapid flaps of wings. Hummingbirds can flap its wings 12 to 19 times per second and can also fly in backwards direction, making it the only bird with this ability. Their rapid flaps of the wings creates a humming sound and so they are rightly called “Hummingbirds”.

Hummingbirds can fly at the speed of 15 meters per second. Since they do lot of exercise while flapping wings, they have the highest metabolism and heart rate up to 1,260 beats per minute. They feed on nectar of flowers and have to keep on feeding to survive, owing to their fast metabolism. During whole day they are just able to gather energy that can help them survive overnight.
