Flying Animals

Animals that fly.

Ever wondered about animals that fly?

Birds as a part of evolution have wings to fly and survive. It is their natural behavior but still there are some amazing animals on earth that fly. Don’t start imaging that they have wings that helps them to fly. Here we are about to see animals that can actually glide their way and make it appear as if they are flying. Let us have a look at few of them.

Frogs- Rhacophorus

These species of frogs spend most of the time at tress than they spend in water. Found in India, Japan and other southern part of Asia. These species are large in size with black colored web on their feet that helps them to glide when they fall and so they are called “flying frogs”.

Squirrels- Sciuridae

Common species is found on trees with a very flexible tail that helps the balance and jumps. Flying squirrel known as Eupetaurus cinereus are found in Siberia and America. They have bushy tails and their fur is soft silky. They have no wings to fly but because of their body anatomy they glide and so can actually be termed as gliding animals.

Fish- Exocoetidae

This species of fish are termed as flying fish and are found in marine water. There are over 50 fishes that belong to this species. Their average length is 35-40 cm and can travel at speed of 60 km per hour. They produce force from their tail that taps water every time they glide.

Lizards- Draco

This species are found in Asia and there are 28 types of them. They can glide their body as they have capability of filling air in their limbs, tail and torso. They feed on insects on trees and are also found in grass of forest.
