Exquisite Birds

Some stunning photos of our feathered friends.

All over the world we find beautiful birds. I could not possibility list all the birds here because there are thousands of different birds. They come in variety of sizes and colors. No two birds are the same. These birds sing such lovely musical songs, some even mimic human speech. I had to just pick and choose some birds to view, I hope you like them.

Cardinals are also refered to as “redbirds” however only the males are truly red. The females are a pretty light brown. The Cardinal is a songbird and sings many different songs. Studies done have shown that the cardinal lives approximately 15 years in the wild.

The Goldfinch is a little bird that is yellow and black. In the winter the Goldfinch turns to a light brown color. Goldfinches do not care for the city, they like open spaces, preferably the country.

The Hummingbird is a very tiny bird. Their wings beat 60 to 80 times per second, this is what gives them the humming sound and how they get their name. The Hummingbird, surprisingly has no sense of smell. Also of all the species of birds the Hummingbird has the biggest brain.

The Blue Jay is a very common bird. It is not only blue but also has black and white markings on it. The male and females look the same. They are a fairly large songbird. Many people do not realize it but they are part of the crow family.

The Mockingbird is known to be able to imitate the calls or songs of other birds. Mockingbirds can also imitate other sounds as well, such as sirens. The Mockingbirds defend both their breeding and feeding territories from other birds.

When it comes to the Parrot there are over 300 types of these birds. They come in many sizes and different colors but they do all have curved beaks and four toes on each foot. They are found in warmer climates all over the world, but many people do have them as pets

The Puffin is such a cute bird. They are black and white, with colorful beaks. They only grow to be a little over a foot tall and weigh about a pound. They love eating fish.

.The Robins are famous for their reddish orange chest. The males are more brilliant than the females. The Robins like to sing in the early morning and again in the late afternoon. In many parts of the Untied States the Robin is associated with spring. People claim when you see a Robin, then that means spring is here

The Snakebird generally eats fish, but they do also eat snakes. They enjoy swimming very low in the water, with their necks sticking above the water, giving them the appearance of a snake. This is how they get the name Snakebird..

The Tanager is a small bird. It is a very pretty songbird, they vocalize very much like the Cardinal. These birds are generally out of sight, hiding high in the trees, coming out only to catch insects.

The Thrush is known for its wonderful songs. It is very rarely seen outside the deep woods. It is a medium size bird. This photo is of the Blue Rock Thrush but most are brown in color.

The Titmouse or better known as the Chickadee are cute tiny birds. They are everywhere and can be found at bird feeders all the time. They fly from place to place and generally do not stay in one area for long.

The Yellow Warbler is a rather fairly large bird. The males are somewhat brighter than the females, who seem to be duller in color. They often hide out in trees, flying to catch insects. You will often see them flying together in flocks.

The Woodpecker is a very large group of birds. There are several types of woodpeckers. They get their name from pecking on trees very nosily with their beaks. They do this not only to locate food, but also to signal their territory.

Great pictures, my husbands personal favorite is the Cardinal, we don’t get them here in Alberta (very very rare) but he misses them from Michigan.

I love watching birds. My friend’s farm gets a large array and several regular finches, blue jays, and humming birds.

These are wonderful pics, thank you!! However, my apologies, but I must point out that the chickadee isn’t a titmouse. Titmice are a completely separate family of birds, and the Snake bird is only nicknamed that, its real name is Anhigna. Anyway, thanks again.
