Creepy Crawlies You Really Don’t Want to Meet

Creatures that will not only scare humans but can also be fatal.

Here are some really scary and dangerous creepy crawlies you do not want to bump into during the night or day!!! Let me know which one scares you the most?

Botfly

Botflies live in Brazil and Chile, as well as the southern United States. This insect lays its eggs on animals and when the eggs hatch the larva then feeds on its host. The worrying thing is that humans can be a potential and suitable host as any other creature!!!

While the maggot feeds on its host it has to have a hole in the skin so it can continue to breathe. The area of swelling will have two small black breathing tubes protruding through and these will remain for the six weeks it takes to complete development. Then when this period is up the classic alien bursting through skin occurs and a rather ugly botfly appears…nice!

Brown Recluse

The brown recluse spider is native to the United States and the Gulf of Mexico. Also known as a fiddleback spider or violin spider, due to the shape of its brown body, it is usually between ¼“ and ¾“, but can grow larger.

This spider rarely bites humans but there is obviously occasions when the two come into contact. This spider is known primarily for its terrible venom, which can produce necrosis at the site of the bite. The necrosis destroys soft tissue and may take months to heal being very difficult to cure, leaving deep scars. The bite cannot be felt and there may be no pain, but over time the wounded tissue will become gangrenous. Another reason to check your boots before you put them on!!

Tick

Who would have thought that a tick could paralyse? Tick paralysis is the only tick-borne disease that is not caused by an infectious organism. Found all over the World ticks are a common pest; after prolonged attachment the engorged tick transmits a neurotoxin to its host, produced by a salivary gland. This type of tick paralysis has killed thousands of animals, mainly domestic, cows and sheep in all parts of the World.

Obviously removal of the tick will resolve any symptoms but if it is not removed in time the toxin can be fatal usually due to respiratory paralysis. Human cases are rare and usually occur in children under the age of 10; remember we are talking about a common ordinary tick here, who’d of thought it could kill!!

Peruvian Giant Yellowleg or Amazonian Giant Centipede

The Peruvian giant yellowleg centipede or Amazonian giant centipede inhabits the northern and western regions of South America and the outlying islands. It can reach lengths of 26 cm but can exceed 30 cm. It is carnivorous, and feeds on things as small as mice and frogs to bigger prey such as birds and bats. It is also known to tackle Tarantulas.

This for me is the scariest looking creature on this list, it has claws called forcipules which curve around its head and deliver venom into its prey. It is a extremely potent and toxic venom that will cause severe swelling, chills, fever, and weakness in humans unfortunate enough to be bitten. The bites are painful, but are unlikely to be fatal; however this is our second bite on the list that can cause necrosis, urrgghhh.

Asian Giant Hornet

Last but certainly not least is the Asian giant hornet, also known as the Japanese hornet. This is the World’s largest hornet, native to both temperate and tropical Eastern Asia. It can grow to lengths of 2.2“, and due to its size has been nicknamed the sparrow bee. This giant preys on other large insects such as bees, other hornet species, and mantises.

The stinger of this hornet injects especially potent venom that can damage tissue; the classic hot nail being driven into your skin. Humans allergic to the venom may die from an allergic reaction; but the venom contains a neurotoxin which can even be lethal to people who are not allergic if the dose is sufficient. Between 20 and 40 people die each year in Japan after being stung by giant hornets. How fast could you run if pursued by something the size of a small bird with a hypodermic needle??

Are you suitably disturbed!?
