Chinese Tigers

Chinese tigers.

The Chinese tiger is extinct in the wild yet there are about 60 in captivity of which 40 are old, sick, week, or disabled. Chinese tigers are about 8 feet long and can weigh 330 pounds.

Chinese tigers eat meat

like most tigers. Tigers eat from 35 to 90 pounds of meat in one meal. If left alone, they will return to the leftovers for 3-6 days, feeding until it has finished the animal. Tigers are not the best hunters, having only 1 successful attack in 10 to 20 tries.

Between 1950 and 1960 the government encouraged police and other people to kill tigers in many ways including food poisoning, poison arrows, and even police weapons.  During this time most Chinese tigers went back into high mountain areas.

Chinese tigers mate at any time but usually in spring or winter. A tigress can have up to 6 cubs although usually 2 or 3.
