Baboon Monkeys
About baboon monkeys and what they do for a living: how they adapt, what kind of species there are, etc.
Surprisingly, baboons are found in varied habitats and are found in a lot of place that would not be thought of. The major requirements for a baboons habitat is that there should be plenty of water sources and also a safe sleeping place in either tall trees or on cliffs. Usually, they are found on rocky terrain in savannas, or cliffs at the seashore. Baboons usually drink water after a day or too. They do not need too much water to survive. In some cases they would lick the dew off their fur for water resource if water is scarce.
The age of a female baboon being sexually mature is at age three to five years of age and for males it is three years of age. Female baboons can breed for twenty years and birth can occur on any month. There is an interval between every birth which is a year or two. Most of the time when a female baboon give birth, it is only one monkey. There are few chances that there would be a twin. The average life span of a baboon monkey is thirty years.
The major predators of a baboon are us, humans. They know that human can easily hurt or injure them, so in that case they are in the trees most of the times. On of their great adaptations allow them to face with other predators such as leopards or cheetahs. Since they have very sharp canines, baboons usually form a line and runs in a threatening manner while screaming with the two big teeth exposed to scare off many preys. Baboons are very fierce, and this great adaptation of screaming while running and exposing their large tooth would scare off many preys to help them survive.
A baboon cares for its young with a lot of care. During the first month of a new born infant, the baboon stays very close to the mother and it takes care if it. They travel together and the young is usually next to the mother’s stomach and holding it by one hand. When the baboon reaches four to six weeks old it can ride on its mothers back holding onto her limbs. After four to six months the young usually hangs out with other young baboons. They then do not need that much attention after they grow up to become mature adults.
A baboon is a very famous monkey character in the movie “Lion King”. Baboons live in very large groups numbering more than two-hundred individuals at one time. Baboons have tails but the use for it is not for gripping things. Baboons have at least thirty different and unique vocalizations to communicate to other members of the troops. They have special gestures that include lip smacking, yawning, and shrugging their shoulders. Female and male baboons look very alike and only have a few differences between them.
