Alligators
The ancient survivor of America.
An American alligator can grow up to 6 – 20 feet long and it was found in Louisiana. Most alligators get up to 13 feet. Alligators do not live in any seas they live in the swamps, rivers, and little ponds. The longest alligator to be found was 19 feet and 9 inches. An American alligator’s scientific name is called Mississippiensis.
In May to June the females lay up to eighty eggs in a hollow and that is where they live and they berry the eggs. An alligator grows to way about 50 pounds. An alligator can leave its mouth open for a very long time to cool off. American alligators are bigger than all of the other types of alligators. Alligator’s skin is covered with thick plates. Alligators look like floating logs in water.
American alligators are found from Texas to North Carolina. Alligators are most found in Florida and Louisiana. Chinese alligators live in Eastern China.
Alligators make their homes out of wet, mushy, areas like swamps and bays. Florida has over three million alligators in that state. Alligators eat fish, birds, and small animals. Alligators usually swallows their prey whole. Alligators have seventy to eighty teeth. Their forth tooth of the lower jaw is a little bit bigger then the other teeth. They can see well in the dark.
Alligators are usually really dark green or some can be black. The shape of an alligator is like a long oval with legs and plat type things on top of their skin. What an alligator eats is mainly any animal it is hungry for.
An alligator’s family is a female alligator a male alligator and sometimes a brother sister. An alligator protects its self from other predators by hissing at them, jumping in the water, or by eating them.
