Happily, things have changed as federal regulations have served to protect the interests of the American alligator. Added to this, there is much less demand for products made from alligator hide with the modern environment friendly views.

Louisiana and Florida

Another benefit to the alligator population is that there are now well established conservation areas that serve to protect the species. Alligators are to be found in great numbers in the southern states of America, particularly in Louisiana and Florida in the lakes and swamps where they thrive. These creatures will feed on all kinds of other smaller animals such as fish, birds and lizards. In spite of the threat of extinction, the alligator is now thriving with an ever growing population that is preserved and protected. The alligator is still a wild creature that should be treated with respect and although some keen enthusiasts do it, they are not recommended as household pets.
