A Lion Kills a Johannesburg Zoo Keeper

A Johannesburg Zoo keeper died after being attacked by a lion breeding in the reserve that the institution has in the center of South Africa, reported the South African news agency Sapa.

Ramonetha Joe, 63, 40 of whom worked in that zoo, was taken to hospital in Parys in the Free State (Midwest), where he died yesterday.

Was quoted by local daily Beeld quoted by Sapa-Police spokesman Free Sate, Maselela Langa, said doctors were unable to save the caretaker of the wounds caused by the lioness.

Meanwhile, zoo spokeswoman, Louise Gordon, said there are numerous steps to avoid contact of the lions with the staff.

According to Gordon, the animals are confined in cages while caregivers clean their rooms or fed to the lions.

Zoo veterinarians the animal sedated after the attack and taken to a new cage.
