Top 10 Weird Species

Ever wondered what the top 10 weirdest species are? If so, then this Top 10 is for you.

##10

Zorse/Zonkey

These hybrids are made when either a donkey or a horse mates with a zebra of the opposite sex. They cannot mate, as their chromosomes are of an odd number, and so cannot divide into 2 even, equal parts during meiosis. In addition, they are extremely temperamental.

#9

Liger/Tiglon

The liger or tiglon are produced by the mating of a tiger and lion of opposite sexes. They are not found in the wild as the territory of the mammals do not overlap, and usually, a liger is the combined size of both sire and mother. At age 6, they stop growing, though that does not keep them from growing to an immense 600-800 pounds.

#8

Ghost Slug

The Ghost Slug, discovered in 2006, has no eyes, and is completely white…which doesn’t make sense, as the creature is nocturnal. Unlike most slugs, it’s a serial killer, capable of ripping apart earthworms with rows of blade-sharp 1mm teeth.

#7

Naked Mole Rat

This rat lives in South Africa, and lives completely underground. It’s eyes are tiny slits, and so its vision is poor, but they are highly adapted to living underground, and can move fast forwards or backwards. Typical indiviuals weigh in at 35-50 grams, and their lips are sealed behind their teeth to prevent dirt from getting in.

#6

Angler

This fish is one of the most successful deep-sea hunters, and also one of the ugliest. Covered in warty brown skin, and having a humongous head doesn’t help, and the fleshy lure that hangs out to entice prey is utterly disgusting.

#5

Ocean Sunfish

The largest known bony fish in the world, the ocean sunfish weighs in at 2200 pounds, and consumes thousands of jellyfish a day to keep its immense bulk. Their average length is 5-7 feet, and oddly enough, they have one of the smallest spinal cords for animals their size, with a 7 foot sunfish having a spinal cord under 1 inch long.

#4

Leafy Seadragon

This fish is in the same category as a seahorse, believe it or not. It has leafy protrusions coming out of its body, and almost invisible pectoral fins as well. Even though they are less than a foot long (8-10 inches), they can range hundreds of miles in a week.

#3

Angora Rabbits

This type of rabbit is bred for its long hair, which is used in expensive clothing. In some breeds, all you can see is the hair. Kinda reminds me of a fluffy plushball…

#2

Blobfish

Aptly named, this fish doesn’t swim, and mainly lives by sucking in any edible matter near it (it literally eats outa it’s ass :O), and stays afloat by having flesh that is slightly less dense than water and with the consistency of jello. Oh yeah, I wonder how it mates with all that blubber….. This fish is found between Australia and Tasmania, in the ocean depths.

#1

Charrier Coffee

The ultimate coffee plant…found in 2008 in the jungles of Africa (Tarzan much?), it is the only naturally decaf coffee plant found in the world as of yet. The only problem is-the coffee it makes just isn’t up to the normal standards, so decaf lovers, you’re gonna have to wait a bit longer.
