THE World’s Largest Eyes

Guess who’s got the largest eyes? While elephants and blue whales are bigger in body size, the giant squid has eyes larger than basketballs making it the animal with the largest eyes. It measures about 60 feet and weighs about 900kilograms, with the eyes making a significant portion of that weight.

The giant squid has the largest eyes known to scientists

Who has the world’s largest eyes?  Who is the king of sight when it comes to eye size? If you answered elephant or whale then you came close but still failed. The World’s largest eyes belong to the giant squid. Even though the giant squid weighs less than most terrestrial and aquatic large mammals, it has the largest eyes ever recorded, the size being closer to that of basketballs!

Each eye has a diameter of about 25 centimeters

The giant squid measures approximately 60 feet and weighs about 900 kilograms, less than any of the world’s largest land mammals and far less than the Blue whale, yet none of those have larger eyes than this amazing creature. Each eye has a diameter of approximately 25 centimeters, larger than a basketball.

Giant squids are the largest invertebrates

Scientists agree that the giant squid is the largest invertebrate. It is found in Northern Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Northern Pacific ocean, Sea of Japan, Bering Sea and in the Southern Ocean, Hawaii and California. They do not survive in freshwater bodies.
