The Light Footed Clapper Rail

The Light Footed Clapper Rail is a member of the bird family and is easily distinguishable because of its distinct long legs and curved bill.  The length of this animal is 15 inches and it can weigh up to a maximum of 13 ounces.  Most commonly this species of bird is found in California and Mexico. 

During the incubation period of 3 weeks the female Light Footed Clapper Rail can produce a total of 8 eggs.  The life expectancy for this species of bird is 7 years and they reach their sexual maturity at the age of 1.  This animal is currently on the endangered species list.
