The Impact of Microorganisms on life

Microorganisms are organisms that are so small or fine that they can’t be seen by the naked eyes but can only be seen when magnified using a microscope.
Microorganisms are present everywhere in the air, in the soil, in water, on our bodies as well as in exposed food and drinks.

Microorganisms that are harmful cause diseases in plants, animals and human beings. Other microorganisms are beneficial to mankind.
Microorganisms can be categorised into five groups:
a) Virus
b) Bacteria
c) Protozoa
d) Algae
e) Fungi
Virus

The smallest of the microorganisms. It has various shapes: cylinder sphere or polyhedron. A virus cannot be classified as a living things as it can only multiply in a living cell or tissue and does not carry out any living processes. It crystallizes outside a living tissue.

Virus causes various kinds of diseases in plants, animals and human beings. Two basic components of a virus are an inner nuclear acid (DNA/RNA) and an outer protein coat. Virus does not contain a cell wall, cytoplasm or nucleus.
Bacteria

Unicellular organism which can be divided into four groups based on their shapes. These are the spherical shaped coccus, the rod-shaped bacillus, the spiral shaped spirillum and the coma-shaped vibrio. The cell wall is not of cellulose but a DNA polymer known as peptidoglycan. The nuclear material is diffused in the cytoplasm with no nuclear membrane.

Life on a smaller scale. These little ones are so fascinating. I wish some of them wouldn’t take from us to survive.
