The Giant Panda

Some facts about the giant panda.

The giant panda is my favourite animal of all times. It is a part of the bear family and is one of the rarest animals of the world. It is a native of China and eats bamboo for food, although sometimes it also eats small plants, small animals and carcasses. It lives in high-altitude forests that have large quantities of bamboo. The giant panda is one of the cutest and cuddliest animals in the world and is loved by many people around the world. I am also a panda lover since my childhood and have had a stuffed toy shaped like a panda. I once read this saying somewhere, “Pandas are the least racist animals, they are black, white and Asian!”

The panda has been the logo of the World Wild Life (WWF) since 1961, when the WWF was founded. In the 1940’s, the Chinese started their efforts to protect this species and by today, there are around forty reservation centers in Southwestern China for pandas. Since the 1980’s, the giant panda has been considered a species in danger of extinction across the world. Since then, many organizations have started the cause of saving the giant panda species and have been actively participating in worldwide efforts to do so. Pandas are considered endangered because of because their productivity rates are low (female panda usually gives birth to only one or two cubs), the shortage of bamboo plants and the loss or fragmentation of the environment in which they live.

Although it was already loved universally, the panda received a huge boost in publicity since the release of the movie named, “The Kung Fu Panda” which shows a panda wishing to be a Kung-Fu warrior despite not having received any training in it and ultimately achieving his goal.

I would love to meet this lovely and adorable animal living in my neighbour country China. I am sure that I will see a giant panda live at some point in life because I love them so much.
