Ten Rejuvenating Creatures; Creatures That Grow Limbs Back

Ten amazing creatures that have the ability to regenerate lost limbs, and in some cases even organs.

The Skink

The skink is similar to the Northwestern Alligator Lizard, it has a brown back and gray sides, most noticeable is its’ bright blue tail. If it is attacked or handled by a human, it bites its tail oof releasing a wiggling tail distracting its prey from the rest of the body. It regenerates a new tail, though generally not blue.

‘Miracle Mouse’

Is a mouse created by scientists in Philadelphia that can regenerate its amputated limbs, and other damaged organs. It was first discovered in test mice who had identification holes punched into their ears, and the holes healed without leaving scars.

Starfish or Sea Stars

Sea stars known as starfish can regenerate limbs and sometimes their whole bodies. While rejuvenation takes place, their vital organs are in their arms. Some species can grow a new sea star from a part of a severed limb. They can consume their food outside of their bodies, by using their suction-cupped feet they pry open clams, and oysters by stomach emerging from their mouth to ooze inside the shell. The stomach covers the prey to digest it and then withdraws back into the body.

Planarian Worm

The Planarian worm can regenerate a whole new head and brain.

Human Fingertip

If you cut the tip of your finger off, simply apply a powdered extract called extracellular matrix taken from a pig’s bladder to the raw finger tip, this lays the framework cells use to regenerate any body part.

ConchIs a sea snail, and the male sex organ called a verge can rejuvenate if it gets eaten by an eel, or crab. If a conch is attacked by a predator and loses an eye, it will generate another one.

Deer Antlers

Deer shed their antlers over January to April, this process takes two to three weeks, and regeneration of new antlers takes place over the summer.

Crawfish

Crawfish can regenerate just about any appendage that gets broken off, legs,claws, antennae and even eyes.

Zebrafish

Is known for mending its own heart muscle. They can regrow new tail fins when they have been torn off.

Salamanders

Known for its amazing camouflaging abilities can also regenerate body parts.

The only thing humans can regenerate is the liver. If a quarter of it is intact it will regenerate. Blood also regenerates along with the outer skin.
