Wet and Wild: 10 Sharks That The Animal Planet Channel Might Show

Sharks do not normally attack and eat humans, but rather prefer to sink their teeth into a juicy, blubbery seal. Some sharks are aggressive or opportunist enough to take a curiosity nibble out of a swimmer before cruising away, but most sharks dine on some of the same seafood delights that we might order at Red Lobster or at our favorite seafood restaurant.

Surfers and swimmers are sometimes confused for seals, but nevertheless they make for an excellent midnight snack. Sharks patrol the shallow of seas and freshwater rivers and the deepest depths of the coldest, bluest oceans in search of a meal. Most sharks are not known for attacking humans, but some sharks are infamous man-eaters.

Great White Shark

The Great White shark is the ocean’s most terrifying predator that garnered worldwide fame in the Steven Spielberg movie “Jaws” in the mid-70s. This massive muscular man-eater is fast, dangerous and hungry and consistently on the hunt for seals, sea loins, sea turtles, dolphins and yes, even other smaller sharks. Found in the deep, cold waters of California, Australia and South Africa. The Great White Shark can grow to over 28 feet long and weight as much as 4180 pounds.

Tiger Shark

The Tiger Shark is a real man-eater that is primarily found patrolling in tropical and sub-tropical waters feeding on just about anything that it can manage to latch its rows of razor-sharp into, including humans. This shark is quiet possibly more deadly than the larger Great White Shark, because the Tiger Shark prefers the warmer waters that millions of swimmers, surfers and divers visit each year. The Tiger Shark can grow to 14 feet and weigh up to 1400 pounds and impact its prey with a powerful burst of speed, which can disorient and confuse its victim before sinking its teeth into its soon to be bloody rare steak of the sea.

Greenland Shark

The Greenland Shark is not quiet as dangerous as its larger cousin the Great White Shark, but can grow up to 21 feet long and weigh up to 2000 pounds. These sharks prefer to patrol under the ice caps of Greenland and Polar regions in the icy cold waters waiting to take a bloody bite out of an unlucky seal or fish that strayed into its path. Greenland sharks have been discovered in cold, deep freshwater rivers in Canada, but to date, no human attacks have been reported. The Greenland shark possess another potentially deadly secret that can kill humans on shore, because this shark’s meat is poisonous and fresh meat should be fully boiled before consuming.

Goblin Shark

Growing to lengths up to 12.6 feet, the Goblin shark is the spooky dark shadow lurking just beneath swimmers’ flailing legs in the deepest salt waters worldwide. The Goblin Shark can amazingly dive down to incredible depths of more than 3900 feet in search for its favorite mealtime snacks, such as octopus, crabs and jacopever.

Porbeagle Shark

The Porbeagle Shark possesses one wicked pointed nose and wall-to-wall razor-sharp teeth to take a gruesome bite out of any bullies that gets in its way. Although, this shark can be found spread out worldwide, it preferred inhabitation is in the coastal waters at depths up to 2300 feet. This competitor predator grows up to 12 feet and weighing in at up to 550 pounds, and prefers to give a good thrashing to mackerel, herring lancefish and sauries when dinnertime draws near. The Porbeagle Shark can generate bursts of powerful speeds when on the attack, thus making this one of the fastest sharks in the deep blue seas.

Whale Shark

The Whale Shark is the biggest shark in the deep, warm waters in the oceans worldwide, but this shark only eats the tiniest forms of sea life in the world. This shark consumes tons of macro-algae, phytoplankton, plankton, krill and nektonic life with every massive mouthful water skim. The tiny organisms are filtered through enormous gills of this incredible shark that can grow to lengths up to 59 feet.

Cookie Cutter Shark

One of the smallest sharks in the countdown feasts on some of the largest fish and mammals of great blue yonder and at impressive depths of 3300 feet deep. Yes, it’s true, the twenty-inch Cookie Cutter Shark piggybacks on whales and other large fish, so that it can attach its crazy sharp teeth into a juicy piece of flesh and with an alligator-like death roll rip free its next savory meal.

Thresher Shark

The Thresher Shark can be found worldwide both inshore and on the continental shelves feeding on schools of mackerel, bluefish and juvenile tuna, while performing some most amazing aerodynamic acrobatic launches from water to air to water again. This shark can grow to more than 25 feet and weigh up to 756 pounds, but are not reported as man-eaters.

Growing up to 10 ½ feet and weighing as much as 176 pounds, the Wobbegong Shark aggressively defends its territory with quick powerful strikes, which sometimes involves the occasional nip at a curious scuba diver exploring the reefs.

Pacific Sleeper Shark

Cool article – though the title is a little misleading, Nelson! I think it’s about time for a Jaws remake, though!

Thank you R J Evans, Liane Schmidt and Judy Sheldon for dropping in for a read and for leaving your comments.

In response to R J Evans’ comment:

I understand that the title seems misleading, but really it isn’t, because “Shark Attack” and “Killer Sharks” are suited for this type of article. I do realize that most every reader will at first translate these two word phrases in relation to human shark attacks and man-eating sharks, but sharks are in fact a killer to just about every type of living creature living in the oceans and seas and sometimes rivers.

The fact is, is that sharks in general including Great White Sharks, Tiger Sharks and Bull Sharks do not attack and kill humans on a massive scale as they do to other types of sea creatures. To write an article focused on only the bloody, gory human attacks and deaths using these same two word phrases would be more misleading to the readers than just focusing on the other types of shark attacks not focused on human carnage, because seals, turtles, fish, whales and other types of sea life are more likely to become a victim sooner than any human will be.

Sharks are ocean and sea animals and they only do what God has designed them to do and that is to feed and to maintain a healthy balance of prey and sea game in the world’s oceans and seas and sometimes rivers. Sharks are perfectly made to help maintain a healthy population of sea life. If humans visit places where sharks feed, then is it the sharks fault or the human’s fault, if the shark attacks or eats them?

But, more importantly, thank you for leaving an excellent comment to respond to. Good Success, with your Triond writings.

I will and I do recommend to anyone reading this article or comments to checkout R J Evans’ Triond articles, because he is an excellent writer and his articles will entertain you. The same goes for Liane’s and Judy’s Triond articles, too. All three of these Triond writers/authors, I do highly recommend to all of my readers, so go and check them out when you have the chance.

    God Bless,

    Nelson Doyle

Cool article, the only problem is the title as Goblin sharks never attack humans unless provoked or attacked so it wouldn’t be considered a killer shark. But, sweet article I enjoyed the cookie cutter shark :D
