The Basking Shark Update
A lesser known animal has a shocking secret.
The Basking Shark is the world’s second largest shark after the whale shark. For 6 months of the year scientists didn’t know where they were for 6 months. But scientists began to tag these sharks and found them in the Caribbean and the Bahamas even though they were once believed to inhabit cold temperature waters.
Scientists have been debating where these sharks went for over 50 years and because they were tagged we now know where they go. They go down to depths of up to 1000 meters for months at a time
