The song of humpback whale can last for half an hour and can be heard to hundreds of kilometers. How can whale sing?

Whales like dolphins have a complex language.  They emit a large quantity of different sounds: whistling, yelling, moaning, and croaking among others.  Sometimes it resembles to singing; at other times, to crying.  Some songs are so high-pitched (ultra-sounds) that they can only be recorded by specialized instruments.  In fact, cetaceans do not possess vocal cords.  They produce these sounds by letting off air through their blowhole and are able to modify the pitch of their ‘song’ with the help of two small air pouches surrounding the blowhole.
