Marine Aquarium: a Piece of the Ocean in Your Home
Bring the beauty of the underwater world into your home.
There is a lot of work involved in keeping a marine aquarium in the home, but the joy of having this beautiful piece of ocean in your home is worth it all.

Here are some examples of the more hardy and commonly kept marine fish are the orange clownfish, sergeant major, scats, jeweled blennies and blue damsels.

The orange clownfish, otherwise known as true clownfish, is made popular in the movie “Finding Nemo”. This fish lives closely with the sea anemones as seen in the movie. This fish adapts very well in an aquarium.

The Sergeant Major is another popular aquarium fish. However, this fish tends to be quite territorial which may be a problem if not taken care of.

Scats are useful in the aquarium because they are scavenger fish that feed on algae and feces. Some of these fish have been known to live more than 20 years in captivity in proper water conditions.

This Lawnmower Blenny is another favourite in the aquarium because of its ability to consume algae growth from rocks and glass. It is also a colourful and active fish making it a popular choice in setting up an aquarium.

This Cocoa damselfish can be used as a biological stabilizer in a new aquarium as it excrete beneficial bacteria. However, because of it beautiful color, now people use this fish to beautify their home aquarium as there are other ways of stabilizing the new aquarium.

Does this fish look familiar? It’s the character that played Deb in the movie “Finding Nemo” – a four stripe damselfish.

If you want to top off your fancy exotic combination, how about some sea horses? These sea horses are slow feeders, care should be taken that all your sea horse get sufficient to eat.
Have a wonderful experience as you bring a piece of the ocean in your living room.

Just beautiful Rachel. One of the reasons I’m not getting one is no space in my apartment, 2nd reason I’ll end up cleaning it, feeding the fish and maintenance, when the rest of the household start taking care of the strays they bring home, I just might consider it.

Hi Carmen
Thank you for dropping by
Yes, taking care of an aquarium at home is a lot of work especially for one person. If everybody lends a helping hand, the work will be lighter.

Very beautiful, my hubby loves marine fish and misses his from UK, but we snorkel amongst them now they are so graceful. We had one tank split on us and I was 9months pregnant, when my husband first saw the water he didn’t jump to the conclusion that his wife had started labour but that we had a leaking bath, you should have heard him cry when he saw his beloved fish dying as we tried to salvage what we could. I love your photos. thanks for this article

Hi Glynis
Oh dear!
Now you have the joy of watching these beautiful fish out in its natural environment! It is a different feeling… the openness of it all… what joy… I envy you. Our waters around Singapore is not very clear, we have to travel out to other islands to enjoy the marine life.
