Godfather of Sharks: The Megalodon

A brief description of these massive beast, and I mean massive.

Oh man, if you think those sharks in movies were vicious and scary, you might drop some Hershey kisses learning about this big guy.

Don’t worry that’s just a drawing of the shark, but he (or she) is real. The great and mighty Megalodon Shark! Don’t worry though; this bad boy became extinct 1.5 to 5 million years ago, so you won’t see him in your bathtub.

The picture above hopefully gives you a good picture of how big the Megalodon is. They can grow to 15 metres (or 49 feet). These guys make great whites look like salmon.

Although researchers could never actually find a live Meg, they have found many of their bones such as their gigantic teeth. Researchers also guess that these sharks even ate large marine creatures such as whales! (hungry much?). With respect to its size, the Meg’s jaws is much more stouter, stronger, and dangerous compared to our modern sharks we see today.

How do these big guys think? , well Megaladons are sharks with initiative these big boys combine hunting from a wide variety of prey and scavenging. Researchers who find dead whales on shores suggest they killed their prey by biting off their propellers first.

That’s about a brief history on these big guys but, you’re probably asking yourselves “how did they get extinct”, and if not I’m still going to answer that question. No one really knows how these species died but many believe they died to climate changes. In my opinion we can’t really say anything is extinct in the sea. We haven’t fully discovered the deepest depths yet, and who knows, maybe there are still big surprises waiting for us. I hope you enjoyed this brief history and information on the baddy of the sea.

My first picture came from videogamer.com, a great picture! My second picture is from fossilguy.com. Third one came from Flickr and lastly the other one is from arizonaskiesmeteorites.com I also like to thank Google for helping me find them.

Incredible. I couldnt believe the information going trough my eyes and sending it into my brain. I now have a totally different opinion on what/where sharks do/and come from.

It actually helped me with my sociology project. Thanks!
