Fish with Transparent Head? Head Looks Like a Fighter-Plane
Weird looking fish found in deep sea waters.
Found on February 2009, a very strange looking fish from deep waters off the California. This Pacific barreleye fish shows off its highly sensitive, green barrel-like eyes.
Pictures shown here were taken on 2004 but showed for the first time in 2009. It is the first specimen of its kind to be found with its soft transparent head intact. This 6-inch barreleye (Macropinna microstoma) had been known since 1939 but only from mangled specimens dragged to the surface by shrimp fishing nets.

The two little bits on front the front aren’t his eyes but smell organs.

The eyes are the green barrel like spheres you can clearly see in this picture.

It is almost impossible to find this animal in perfect conditions due to the place it lives. It lives 600m beneath the ocean surface where the water is dark, almost inky.

They spend most of their time motionless watching upwards. Waiting until they see their meal. Then the eyes rotate forward to follow its prey.
