Komodo Dragon

Komodo the dragons of today and the largest lizard in the world.

We have always assumed dragons to be ancient mythical creatures that breathe fire. But today we meet a real life dragon. This dragon may not be as fierce as its ancestors but it sure packs a punch. These magnificent beasts inhabits the komodo islands in Indonesia these lizards belong to the monitor lizard family and for a fact are the largest living species of lizard growing to a average length of  2 to 3 meters  and a weight of 70Kg  they are the top predator in their environment as they have no other natural predators. Komodo dragons are mostly carrion and will scavenge but they have also been known to ambush and hunt prey. These animals also have anther neat trick up their sleeve, they have the ability to poison their prey this is not done in the same way as snakes as they do not have glands that secrete venom. Instead they use their saliva to infect their prey this is because their saliva harbors a cocktail of different bacteria that infect the host weakening it making them an easy feast.
