Human Growth Hormone: Part One
Human growth hormone (hGH) is a natural hormone produced by the pituitary gland that facilitates a number of tissue-building processes in the body.
It’s a promise that’s bound to have the “Axe effect”. Reversing the aging process with Human Growth Hormones (HGH) is an irresistible call that can draw hordes of people, but promises of better sexual performance, better heart and kidney function, better immune system… are just that. Mere promises.
Human Growth Hormone is produced by the pituitary gland, a small structure at the base of the brain.

This hormone stimulates growth and cell production and helps to maintain tissues and organs throughout life. The secretion of this hormone peaks during adolescent years and thereafter starts declining as we grow older – research says it falls about 14% after every ten years after the ages of 20–30.

HGH helps protein synthesis and muscle growth while stimulating the body to use up fat stores. It also promotes proper bone and cartilage growth and repair, reverses osteoporosis and stimulates the immune system. It decreases carbohydrate utilization, thereby increasing blood sugar levels and boosting insulin production. With aging and declining levels of growth hormones, fat deposits increase, and muscle mass and bone mineralization decrease; you develop age-ravaged looks and experience other age-related problems like diabetes, depression, loss of energy and loss of muscle mass.

In the 1950s HGH was used to treat children who were deficient in HGH and consequently did not grow properly. In those days, HGH was extracted from the pituitary glands of cadavers. This hormone is now available in large supply due to genetic engineering techniques that have been developed through recombinant DNA technology.
In 1985, Dr. Daniel Rudman, suggested that human aging is a result of HGH deficiency. He wanted to find out if HGH could actually reverse the loss of lean body mass that always accompanied aging. The patients in the trial conducted by him showed significant boosts to their lean muscle mass and bone density. His findings were published in The New England Journal of Medicine in July 1990, titled, ” Effects of Human Growth Hormone in Men Over 60 years Old.” There were negative side effects too like carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pains and edema.

Great article Uma. What I don’t get is why people just don’t seem to want to age gracefully. Keeping yourself healthy is one thing, taking a bunch of supplements just to look younger is something else entirely.

Growth Hormone deficiency was what that stood in the way of the dreams of not only an Argentinian pubescent boy but those of his home nation as well. But thanks sheer genius in scouting, driven by corporate aims and fueled by the passions of the Barsque- Madrid rivalry, Barcelona offered a hand and as they say the rest is history.
Forgive my story, but thanks to this informative post, I got to understand better what afflicted the world’s current (possibly humanity’s best ever) most gifted footballer- Lionel Messi!

Good article. As someone who is 4ft 6inches at age 48 I stopped growing years back.Had I been given growth hormone with the mad cows disease strain I guess I wouldn’t be writing this now. We have come a long way since then though thankfully
Look forward to part 2.

Very interesting article, Uma. My partner knows an amateur boxer who takes steroids and growth hormone, with no idea what damage he’s doing himself. He’s huge but in his last fight he had to throw the towel in before the end due to tiredness – perhaps it was the growth hormone causing that…
Some people, like you said, will put anything into their bodies, with total disregard for the impact it may have on their health.
