What Happens During Breathing?

In winters, when we blow air gently out of our mouth we can actually see it in a white smoke form. This is because the hot air from out mouth contains moisture that comes in contact with the cool atmosphere outside and condenses.

Air enters and leaves the body through the nasal passage. When we breathe in, fresh air rich in oxygen rushes into the lungs, the lungs expand and pump oxygen present in the air into the blood. The blood carries oxygen to all parts of the body. Oxygen helps to make energy from digested food. Energy is required by the body to perform various functions.

When we breathe out, the lungs contract and unwanted air full of carbon dioxide is forced out of the body.

This whole process involves a dome –shaped muscles called the diaphragm. It is like an elastic band. When we breathe in, the diaphragm contracts and the lungs fill up with air. When we breathe out, the diaphragm muscles relax and forces the air out, thus bringing the lungs back their normal size.

Each breathe consists of breathing in and breathing out. The number of time your chest comes out I the number of times you breathe in. the number of times your chest goes in is the number of times you breathe out.

The respiratory system

You know that the human body needs air to breathe. The respiratory system helps you to breathe. It is made up of the nose, wind –pipe and two lungs. The wind-pipe connects the nose to the lungs. The lungs are located in the chest.

Breathe involves the process of taking in oxygen (inhalation) and giving out carbon dioxide and other gases (exhalation).

When we breathe in air, it becomes moist and warm due to our body temperature.

  • Always breathe though your nose of keep the dirt and germs out from body. It also keeps the lungs clean and healthy.

*Breath properly keeps the body fit and mind active. In fact, breathe exercises called prayanama are practiced by many people to control asthma and other health problems.
