Stem Cells
A hope for the lost?
Stem cells, the long awaited treatment for various diseases, has finally being cleared by the FDA to be tested on humans. The company doing the clinical trials will be injecting eight to ten paraplegic patients with embryonic stem cells. They will be observing the side effects and determining the safety of this procedure, but also they hope there will be return of sensation or movement in the legs.
The research done in stem cells is limited and up to now the studies have only included animals. This will be the first time that results from a clinical trial may be expected and the world will see if stem cells can give hope to those that may need stem cells treatment.
Stem cells are being tested for their ability to regenerate cells in the human, so that, injuries which are caused by lost tissues, maybe replaced and the health of the person restored.
