- 2 plasma proteins
- Albumin- Approximately 60% of plasma proteins
- Produced by the liver
- Preserves osmotic pressure of plasma
- Transports fatty acids
- Globulins- Approximately 35% of plasma proteins
- Antibodies aka immunoglobulin’s
- Fibrinogen- Approximately 4%
Functions in blood clotting, under certain conditions. Fibrinogen molecules combine to form strands of fibrin.
- Serum- Is the liquid remaining after blood clotting proteins have been removed from plasma
- 3 Salts- major plasma electrolytes are Na+, K+, Ca2, Mg2+Cl-, HCO3
- 4 Gases – oxygen and carbon dioxide
- 5 Nutrients (absorbed from digestive tract)
