How Does The Mind Work?

Exposing the reader to the working of the mind.

Over the years, many psychologists and social scientists have given variegated meaning to what the mind is. Indeed, researches are carried out on the working of the human mind. The question that befalls us now is: if we know what the mind is where is it? Is it in the heart or in the head? And how does it work?

We will first and foremost give a brief conceptual definition of what the mind is. We will then go further in dividing the mind into the two main areas. Lastly we will explore the dwelling place of the mind. The mind is that part of the body that enables us to be aware of things. It can be said to be that part of the body that makes us know what we ought to know.

The mind is divided into two main parts the conscious and the subconscious. Psychologically, the conscious mind is our brazen minds that motivate us into immediate action. It is that part of the mind that pushes us to react to a particular action. The conscious mind drives man into action that may be intuited by a reaction. This is a mind owned by most mentally unstable people. This is not to say that the mentally deranged people do not have an unconscious mind.

Equally. The subconscious mind is the still voice in man that whispers to his senses. It is the proactive mind that judges between good and bad, right and wrong. Religiously, the conscious mind propels man to act against the Golden Rules. In Christiandom, it is the mind that moves man into breaking the Commandments of God. The subconscious mind is the God in man. It is the still voice that whispers in man what is good and evil.

Mention should be made at this point that Judo-Christian belief has it that this mind was instilled in man at the New Covenant between God and men (cf. Jeremiah 31:33) .

It is then pertinent to explore where the mind is. Some may think that the mind is in the head because we associate thinking with the head. Rather, what the head harbors is the sense faculties viz smell, sight, and hearing because all are connected to the central nervous system (CNS).

Thinking is done in the mind. As such the mind is housed in the heart. The mind is the machine that produces thought processes which are transferred to the senses and then made manifest through the sense organ. In subsequent parts we will deal more on the subject matter. It will then to possible to point out how the mind works.
