Functions of Blood
What are the functions of blood?
- It carries inhaled oxygen from the air sacks of the lungs to the different parts of the body.
- It carries the by-products of oxidation (carbon dioxide) from the body cells to the air sacks of lungs for exhaling.
- It delivers digested food from small intestine to all the body cells.
- It regulates the body temperature. This is caused due to the capillaries situated in our skin which help to keep the body temperature constant at about 37 degree centigrade .
- It protects the body from diseases. This is because the white blood cells kill the bacteria and other germs that cause diseases.
- It carries waste products called urea from the liver to the kidneys so that it can be excreted out of the body in the form of urine.
- It carries hormones from the endocrine glands to different organs of the body (where they are needed).
